Offered by the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS). Their award is for New England students who are dedicated to the humane treatment of animals.

Students who demonstrate direct action, leadership, and awareness on behalf of animal rights are eligible to apply. Regardless of financial need or academic records.

The application should include a description of what the student has done to promote animal welfare and protection (ie: speeches, demonstrations, volunteering at shelters, leading a vegan/vegetarian lifestyle, etc.

The Vegetarian Resource Group Scholarships

Amount: $5,000; $10,000

VRG offers scholarships to students who have worked to promote vegetarianism and/or veganism in their schools and community. Applicants are decided on their dedication and compassion in regards to their vegetarian/vegan lifestyle. They are also asked to write an essay on one of the themed topics outlined on their site.

To apply, students must submit a high school transcript, documentation of their promotion efforts, and the essay.

Roth-Vegetarian Endowed Scholarship

Amount: Up to full tuition

At the University of Hawai’i at Manoa, a hefty scholarship fund is set up to assist students who are studying nutrition or other fields that can relate to fostering vegetarian lifestyles. Preference will be given to full-time graduate students, but can also be awarded to undergraduates.

Interested students must be attending the University of Hawai’i at Manoa, be in a relevant field, be full-time, and can apply online.

Amount: $1,500

The Shaw-Worth Memorial Scholarship is awarded each year to a high school senior from New England. In order to be considered for this source of funding, candidates must have been involved in activities advocating the protection of animals.

Students looking to pursue an undergraduate degree, certificate, or non-degree programs are eligible to apply. There is no specific application form required.

Applicants are asked to write a letter to the Humane Society setting out or their attitude toward animals and listing activities and achievements in the area of animal protection, of which veganism may be considered one.

At least three letters of recommendation must be included in the package, which is to be mailed to the Humane Society.

This one can be an easy one to miss since there is no traditional application form, so make sure it is on your scholarship radar if you qualify.

University of Hawaii at Manoa, Department of Human Nutrition, Food, and Animal Science

Amount: $10,000

Financial assistance will first be offered to full-time graduate students first; then undergraduates are considered. The successful applicant will be a U.S. citizen studying either human nutrition or a course of study designed to promote the habits and practices of vegetarianism.

In addition, candidates must themselves be practicing vegetarians and/or vegans. If you are a scholarship recipient. You will be selected based on your academic record and personal statement with respect to goals.

Doris Day Animal Foundation Grants

Want to help animals in your community? The Doris Day Animal Foundation Grant is given out to help do just that. Numerous grants are given out throughout the year, with amounts up to $5,000 each. The grants are given in honor and memory of Doris Day, a legendary actress who was also an animal rights advocate.

To apply, you need to send a letter of introduction about who you are and what you want to accomplish with the grant funds. Types of grants that have been given out fund animal shelters, animal food pantries, animal rescue, and rehabilitation, etc.
