All students must fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year to receive financial aid. If this is your first time applying for aid, you may want to calculate your estimated cost of attendance with our net price calculator.

FAFSA, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, is the only application required to apply for need-based financial aid at UMass Dartmouth. Before applying, request a Federal Student Aid ID (FSA ID) and password for you and a parent/guardian.

UMass Dartmouth’s Federal School Code: 002210

Basic Eligibility

In order to be considered for financial aid, you must meet eligibility requirements.

Be aware of deadlines. Do not wait to be accepted for admission. Complete the FAFSA as soon after October 1 as possible. Priority consideration deadline is March 1.

Keep a file for your records of all financial aid materials. Keep copies of all documents including the FAFSA.

Respond promptly to all requests for information. If additional documentation is required, your application file cannot be completed until we have received and reviewed the requested documents.

Be sure your name and student ID are on all correspondence.

Notify Financial Aid Services in writing of all outside scholarships, awards, additional resources, or unique family circumstances.

In order to keep receiving financial aid, you’ll need to file the FAFSA each year, as well as maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP). Withdrawing from or repeating courses can impact your aid.

Helpful hints

When applying for scholarships, remember the following:

Read each scholarship to determine your eligibility.

Demonstrated financial need is determined by a completed FAFSA.

If you are ineligible to complete a FAFSA, you do not qualify for scholarships based on financial need.

All scholarships have specific criteria listed in their descriptions. If you do not meet all of the eligibility criteria listed, you cannot be selected for that particular scholarship. Please be sure to apply only for scholarships for which you meet all listed parameters.

Merit-based scholarships are determined by the requirements of each individual scholarship.

For high school and transfer students entering UMassD this fall, there are some scholarships specifically for incoming freshmen and transfer students. You can supply a transcript from your high school and/or transferring college/university.
