Are you wondering which of the stores do accept Venmo? The good news is that Venmo can be used for mobile and in-app purchases at several retailers, food delivery services, and ride-sharing apps.
Venmo is a company under PayPal, an online payment company you can use with millions of businesses. Although Venmo and PayPal are owned together, you can’t use Venmo everywhere that PayPal is accepted.
Your account information is secure through encryption that protects your account information and monitors accounts for unauthorized activity. What’s unique about the Venmo application is that you cannot access it on a computer or laptop.
Venmo is a digital wallet that initially became popular among those who were looking for an easier way to make and share payments with friends or family.
Here are a few examples of use cases that aided Venmo’s growth:
Splitting a dinner bill (especially when the waiter says they don’t do separate checks).
Paying your roommate your half of the utilities or rent.
Surprising a friend by sending them money to buy a morning coffee.
How Does Venmo Work?
So, how exactly can you manage peer-to-peer payments from your mobile device using Venmo?
It’s actually very simple. After creating a Venmo account and linking it to your bank account, you’re ready to accept or send payments! Similar to a PayPal account, where users have options on how to send, spend, or transfer their balance, Venmo users can do the same.
Venmo users can send money to friends or family, spend the money in their account using the Venmo Mastercard, shop at the millions of merchants that accept Venmo, or transfer the balance in their Venmo account to an eligible debit card or U.S. bank account.
As Venmo becomes an increasingly popular way for consumers to transact with one another, it’s important for your online business to strategize how to introduce this payment method to your store functionality.
In fact, a majority of North American retailers already or plan to accept mobile POS payments within the next two years. PayPal merchants are already one step ahead.
With PayPal Checkout with Smart Payment Buttons or the Braintree payment platform, customers are only one step away from using their favorite mobile payment option.
Where Can I Use Venmo?
Venmo is an app owned by PayPal and works much the same way as PayPal. With Venmo, you can send money to friends and family without giving them your bank account or credit card information.
Venmo also acts as a social media app where you can create a profile, add friends, and share your dining, shopping, and purchasing activities with them.
According to its website, Venmo is still in the process of rolling out availability for online and in-app purchases. All merchants that accept PayPal now have the option of accepting Venmo when customers shop online with their mobile device.
However, that does not mean you can automatically use Venmo at any merchant that takes PayPal; merchants must opt-in to accept Venmo before you can pay with the app.
Venmo payments can only be processed on mobile devices. You can’t use Venmo while shopping online on a computer, but Safari for iOS and Google Chrome for Android are both supported mobile browsers.
To shop using Venmo, you must first install the Venmo app on your iOS or Android device. Next, you’ll need to enable purchases. You can then use Venmo in apps and on mobile websites that offer a Venmo payment option.
In addition to electronic payments, Venmo also offers the Venmo card. This is a Mastercard-branded debit card that you can load with funds from your Venmo account. You can use the debit card to shop at any brick-and-mortar or online merchant that accepts Mastercard.
