Public Storage Review 2022: What Services do they offer?

– Public Storage –

This company provides a range of sizes of storage units and types of units and is a perfect choice for most of your storage requirements. They have the most locations of any self-storage company in the US.

Public Storage

Public Storage is the enterprise’s biggest self-storage company – by a long shot. Public Storage has plenty of room to spare with over 150 million rentable square feet of storage space in the US alone.

When choosing a storage company, size isn’t everything. Storage unit selection, facility features, and rental cost all come into play when weighing your options.

Public Storage

Whether you want to store a few pieces of furniture during a home remodel or store your vast collection of Beanie Babies because “they’ll be worth something someday,”

your Public Storage rental rate depends on your storage unit size, whether you want climate-controlled storage, and whether you need to purchase self-storage insurance.

Your storage unit preference isn’t the only thing that affects your rent, however. Much like its services and features, Public Storage’s rental rates vary between its locations too.

Look at the table below to see the price range for Public Storage’s most common storage types.

The price depends on where you live and how much you’re storing. For example, a 5’ x 5’ unit in Utah may cost $41 but can cost upwards of $160 in New York.

Most of Public Storage’s prices are easy to find online, however. If you’re curious about the rental rate for a storage unit in your area, you can find its website.

Public Storage’s Size Benefits

1. You’re More Likely to Find the Right Storage Size

With over 158 million square feet of rentable space, Public Storage is miles ahead of the competition with storage space.

The next company in line is about forty-five million feet short of that mark, and that size discrepancy makes a substantial difference.

Smaller storage companies hurry out of their most popular storage sizes, but thanks to Public Storage’s size advantage, you’re more likely to find the right storage unit for your needs than anywhere else.

2. You’re More Likely to Live Near a Facility

In addition to having the most rentable space, Public Storage also has the most company-owned locations in the self-storage biz—2,386 in the US, to be exact.3

This widespread availability means there’s likely a Public Storage unit near you. That comes in handy if you need to visit your storage unit often to store or retrieve items for your hobbies or small business.

Even if you have no intention of visiting your unit for several months, finding a conveniently located storage facility makes move-in day much less time-intensive than if your storage facility is across town.

Public Storage Gives you Tons of Storage Options

Half the battle of renting a storage unit is finding a unit that’s the right size. You don’t want to rent something too large to store just your stamp collection.

However, you don’t want to be stuck with something too small to store those giant stuffed carnival prizes you keep winning.

Most storage companies offer a variety of storage sizes, but we found that Public Storage had a wider variety across its facilities than other storage companies we researched.

Common Public Storage Unit Sizes

Unit size Equivalent capacity
5′ x 5′ Small room or large closet
5′ x 10′ 1 average-sized room
5′ x 15′ 2 average-sized rooms
10′ x 10′ 3 average-sized rooms
10′ x 15′ 4 average-sized rooms
10′ x 20′ 5 average-sized rooms
10′ x 25′ 6 average-sized rooms

In addition to these storage sizes, we also found several locations with more unique sizes:

  • 4′ x 8′
  • 5′ x 3′
  • 5′ x 7′
  • 10′ x 23′
  • 10′ x 30′
  • 12′ x 15′
  • 17′ x 20′
  • 15′ x 20′
  • 12′ x 25′
  • 12′ x 28′
  • 20′ x 35′

Storage unit sizes vary by facility, regardless of which storage company you choose.

Public Storage Offers Vehicle Storage

Public Storage offers three storage options to keep your vehicles safe.

1. Uncovered Storage

Uncovered storage is your best bet if you just need somewhere to park your vehicle for an extended period.

It won’t provide any extra protection from the elements, but it will provide a secure space and free up some room on your street or in your driveway.

2. Covered Storage

Covered storage is similar to uncovered vehicle storage in that it’s still outdoors, but it provides a little extra protection. If you live in an area that experiences a lot of rain or snow, covered storage is the way to go.

3. Enclosed Storage

Enclosed storage offers the most protection out of Public Storage’s vehicle storage options.

This is the perfect option if you want to store a more valuable car or you want the reassurance of protecting your vehicle with four walls and a ceiling.

Public Storage says it offers all three storage options for anything from cars and motorcycles to boats and RVs.

Unfortunately, we had a hard time locating a facility that listed vacant spaces for the covered options online.

Since enclosed and covered storage spaces are limited, you often have to call Public Storage to find an available space.

Although we like the fact that it offers vehicle storage for such a wide range of vehicle sizes, we wish you could reserve these options online.
