What is Stardew Valley

Stardew Valley is a simulation role-playing video game developed by Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone.

It was released for Microsoft Windows in February 2016, with ports later being released for macOS, Linux, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation Vita, iOS, and Android.

In Stardew Valley, players take the role of a character who takes over his or her deceased grandfather’s dilapidated farm in a place known as Stardew Valley.

The game is open-ended, allowing players to take on several activities such as growing crops, raising livestock, crafting goods, mining for ores, selling produce, and socializing with the townsfolk, including marriage and having children. It also allows up to three other players to play together online.

Best Ways to Make Money on Stardew Valley

At the start, things will seem slow as you get to grips with everything that Stardew offers.

Below are a bunch of tips to make a simple life a little simpler.

1. Fishing

Fishing is one of the best ways to get a lot of extra income, especially when you’re just getting started and don’t have a lot of resources yet.

All that’s required is patience, good reflexes, and a fishing rod—which you can get for free from Willy early in the game.

Fishing in Stardew Valley is all about spending in-game time, especially since the energy cost of fishing is relatively low.

Your character can stay until 2 a.m., so try to max out the time you spend fishing.

During your first few in-game weeks, after you complete your daily tasks, such as foraging and farm work, spend the rest of your time fishing.

You should also fish a lot whenever it’s raining. The fish you can catch then are entirely different from what you get when it’s sunny—plus, they typically sell for a higher price. Take advantage of the time you save from not having to water your crops.

Rarer, more valuable fish appear whenever you’re farther away from the land. While maxing out your fishing pole consumes more energy, it might be worth it if you only have a limited time to fish. Keep an eye out for bubbles, which appear randomly in various bodies of water.

Casting your pole in these spots makes fish bite significantly faster.

2. Farm More Than Crops

Stardew Valley is a game about farming. But there are quite a few items you’re going to need—especially for our goal of total domination here—a lot of which can’t just be planted and grown.

Wood and coal are two of the most valuable resources in building the machines than transmute your crops and other items into high-value artisan goods.

And since the machines take time to process, having more to run at once is better. Wood—okay, that one can be planted and grown, but I suggest doing so with a bit of purpose rather than letting nature run wild.

I’ve found a grid tree with two spaces between them works best. It allows for high tree density while still leaving space for your horse to run in between.

You can use any seeds you like for your tree farm, but be sure to dedicate a section of Oak Trees for Tappers. We’re going to need a lot of Oak Resin, later on, so start collecting it now.

3. Unlock the Bridge on the Beach

Another great way to make money early in the game is by having Robin build the bridge on the beach. To unlock it, you need to collect 300 pieces of wood from cutting down branches and trees.

With the 300 wood in your inventory, approach the broken bridge on the east side of the beach.

Once the construction is complete, you can access the tidal pool area. You can find a ton of unique items to forage here daily, such as Corals and the valuable Sea Urchins.

These are a great way to easily supplement your income early on, as they’re relatively consistent. Plus, you don’t have to save them for future recipes.

4. Process Crops

Simply selling the base products you obtain will be the main way you earn money. However, there are better ways to go about it.

As you level up your skills, you unlock various new machines that can process your goods into higher-quality stuff.

Machines like the Keg, Preserves Jar, or Mayonnaise Machine take your base to produce, work on it for a couple days, then turn out something new.

This process can be time-consuming, as you have to wait several days in some cases, but the end results are always worth it. 25G Egg can turn into 100G Mayonnaise.

Your fruits and vegetables that sell for 50-100G can turn into Pickled and Jelly versions that sell for 200G or higher.
