What is Chromecast?

Chromecast is a device that you plug into your TV’s HDMI port, powered by a USB cable (included).

Using your smartphone or computer as a remote control, you can use Chromecast to access video content from Netflix, YouTube, Hulu, the Google Play Store, and other services (Xfinity Stream just got Chromecast support).

You can also use it to stream almost any kind of content from the Chrome browser on a laptop or desktop computer.

How does Google Chromecast Work?

While it might appear that you’re sending the video from your device to the Chromecast, most of the time it’s doing something more simple.

Your connected device is merely telling your Chromecast what you want to play, and then the Chromecast will stream that media, using its own connection to the internet.

Of course, you can also use a Chromecast to mirror your phone, tablet, or laptop’s screen on your TV.

This requires a lot more active intent, as your device cannot be put to sleep or unlocked, without the feed going down.

Oh, and if your Chromecast is getting an update right now, get excited. The Chromecast will finally remember your volume settings, and the Google Home app is becoming a better virtual remote control.

How to Watch Amazon Prime Video With Chromecast

From a PC

‣ Go to the Amazon Prime Video website on your Chrome browser.

‣ Select a movie or TV show you want to watch and press play.

‣ Pause it and ensure that you don’t switch to full screen.

‣ In the Chrome browser, click on the three vertical dots at the top right corner to open the menu.

‣ Click on “Cast…” and select the Chromecast you want to connect to.

‣ The laptop screen will now be mirrored on your television.

This method limits Amazon Prime Video resolution to 1080p when you cast them to your Chromecast. Keep that in mind when you have a movie or TV show that also supports 4K resolution on Amazon Prime Video.

From Androids

Open the Prime Video app on your Android device and switch on your smart TV or a device like Chromecast or Roku. Make sure your devices are all connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

Tap the cast icon at the bottom-right corner of your screen to connect your Android to your smart TV or streaming device. Select the device or TV from the available devices list.

Choose the movie or show that you want to watch and it will begin streaming on your selected device.

How to Get  Subtitles?

To be able to get subtitles, you have to make a few adjustments. First of all, disconnect your Chromecast dongle from your TV so that it’s no longer connected to your phone or tablet.

After that, access your device’s accessibility settings. On both Android and iOS devices, this submenu should contain subtitle settings or caption settings.

Once you make the changes you need, you can then reconnect the dongle to your TV, launch the Prime Video app, and go through the casting process explained above.
