iPhone Volume Not Working: When an iPhone’s speaker stops working, so do many of the features that make the iPhone so great. What to do if Your iPhone Volume is Not Working
Check Your Sound Settings
If your device has a Ring/Silent switch, move the switch forward—toward the device’s display—so that orange isn’t showing. If you’re using an iPad, you can also swipe down from the top-right corner to view Control Center and make sure that Silent Mode is off.
Open Settings > Do Not Disturb and make sure that Do Not Disturb is off.
Restart Your iPhone
It may be some bug which is not harmful at all. Restart your iPhone: press the Power/Sleep switch and the Home button at the same time.
Keep holding both buttons until the screen turns off and then turns back again and displays the Apple logo. Your smartphone will restart without affecting any personal data. If there is a temporary sound glitch on the iPhone, this solution should fix it.
Plug and Unplug Headphones
It’s very common that the iPhone plays music well only with earphones. Once disconnected, there’s no sound and the volume slider does not show up.
If this is your case, get your headphones and insert them into the headphone jack, then quickly pull them out.
Repeat this 4 or 5 times. Sometimes the smartphone gets stuck in headphone mode, so this action normally will undo that. Also, this may remove any dust or grime lodged in there.
Clean Receivers and Speakers
Remove all screen protectors, films, or cases from your device. Check the speaker opening to see if it’s blocked or dirty.
On iPhone only, make sure that the receiver is not blocked or dirty. If necessary, clean the speaker or receiver opening with a small, soft-bristled brush. Make sure that the brush is clean and dry.
Try Making a Call
If you hear the sound, try making a call with your iPhone and turn on speakerphone. On iPad or iPod touch, make a FaceTime call. If you still can’t hear or hear static or crackling, then your network or reception could be the issue. Try to call again later, or from a different location.
Turn Off Bluetooth
You might have paired with a Bluetooth headset that is nearby. So you can’t hear the sound without this device. Turn Bluetooth off (choose Settings > General > Bluetooth) to unpair with a headset.
Update your device to the latest iOS version. Go to the Settings > General > Software Update and check if your iOS version is the latest. If no, proceed with the update.
