You are not alone if you are unhappy with the name you created for your PlayStation Network account.

Your name used to be permanent, but Sony relented earlier this year and now PS4 users finally have the option to change their name, so many people complained about their permanent PSN name.

There are two ways to change your name: using the PS4 console or in a web browser.

There are some threats in both situations. Not all games and services will function properly if you change your name, as Sony tells you before you make a change to your PSN name, and it could potentially result in the loss of any saved game data.

You get to make one PSN name change free of charge, but subsequent name changes cost $10 each.

How to Change Your PSN Name in a Web Browser

  • Your first step is to sign in to your Sony account.
  • Once you do that, you’ll see your PSN account name (Sony calls it your “Online ID”) as the top option in the window.

However, it also warns that doing so may not fix problems, should they arise. In other words, there’s a chance that something will get messed up. If you’re cool with the risk, move forward.
