Alaska Quarterly Review

The Alaska Quarterly Review, a popular literary magazine, accepts poems in traditional and experimental styles up to twenty pages long.

They pay $10 to $50 for published submissions and accept simultaneous submissions as long as your cover letter identifies them as such.

AGNI Magazine

AGNI is an American literary magazine publishing poetry at Boston University, and more than twice a year in print.

The magazine accepts poetry submissions and pays $20 for accepted poetry per printed page, up to a maximum of $150.

The magazine does have quite a few guidelines for submission, so be sure to read them in depth before applying.

 The Three Penney Review

The Three Penney Review is a prominent literary magazine. They accept poetry submissions that are unpublished and are 100 lines or less.

While other items should be submitted double-spaced, you can submit poetry entries to the Three Penney Review either double-spaced or singled spaced.

Additionally, the payout for poems chosen for publication in the Three Penney Review is high – $200.

Boulevard Magazine

This site allows you to send as many as five poems at a time and earn between $25 and $250 for each accepted poem. However, every poem you submit has a 200-line limit.


EPOCH magazine is a magazine published by the faculty in the Creative Writing Program in the English Department at Cornell University.

They accept submissions of poems in all forms but ask that you limit each submission to five poems in each envelope.

In addition, they pay a minimum of $50 for each accepted poem.


According to its website, Rattle’s mission is to “foster the practice of poetry.” They both have an online version of their publication and a print version of their publication.

Rattle likes to see presentations of poetry that are “unique, insightful, musical and that stand out.”

They are paying $50 for poems published in their online publication, and $100 for poems that make the printed version available.

The Arc Poetry Magazine

Arc Poetry Magazine is a Canadian magazine that accepts all sorts of poems. It also has an annual themed issue where poems from different writers are published. For each accepted poem, you will earn $15. 

The Sun Magazine

The Sun Magazine is an ad-free magazine publisher that accepts submissions for essays, fiction, interviews, and yes, poetry. There’s no minimum word count for poetry submissions, and they pay between $100 and $200 for published poetry works.


The literary magazine of the College of Charleston, Crazyhorse, only welcomes general poetry submissions from September 1 through May 31.

They do ask you to submit three to five at a time for poetry submissions, and allow up to 16 weeks of hearing back, sometimes even longer if your work is taken seriously.

In addition, payments varied between $20 and $200.

 Poetry Foundation

The Poetry Foundation is the longstanding publisher of Poetry Magazine. The company pays for works previously unpublish which are accepted in their magazine for publication.

For each submission, the submission is limited to four poems.

Additionally, the payout at a rate of $10 per line for published poetry works, with a minimum payout of $300.

Bottom Line

I would argue any great writing has to have you in it -your passion and your struggles but poetry even more so. If you’re just writing a poem to get paid, I suspect it’s not going to be good enough to achieve that goal.

Write down the poem you need to write, and find the right diary for it.
