There are easy steps to check your Montana EBT card balance anytime you want to. However, before that, the food stamp benefits must be accepted for Montana Food Assistance, and then deposited electronically on a Montana EBT Card. Learn in detail below!
Overview of Montana EBT Card
The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) is responsible for administering Montana Food Stamp benefits. Also known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), the food stamps program.
The Montana Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) Card is similar to a standard ATM or debit card. Each month, food stamp benefits will be deposited on your EBT Card the same day.
Benefits can be accessed from your EBT Card account by 8AM the morning after they are posted.
Benefits may be used to make approved food purchases at qualifying retail locations. Most Montana grocery stores accept the Montana Food Stamps Voucher, even farmer’s markets.
The markets of some farmers even enable you to double your EBT cash, giving you even more for your monthly benefits.
Montana Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program
In 1977, the Food Stamp Act (currently known as SNAP) was passed by Congress with the purpose of assisting qualifying families in obtaining a healthier diet by supplementing their food budget.
The amount of SNAP assistance a household receives is determined by their income, expenses, and number of household members. The U.S. Agriculture Agency and Montana State provide funding for the program.
Families consisting of husbands, wives, and children under 22 years old are considered one family, along with their biological, adoptive, or stepparents.
If household members wish to be included, they must be either U.S. citizens or legal aliens and must provide a valid social security number. To qualify for benefits, income and resource guidelines must be met.
Members of the household between the ages of 16 and 59 who are able to work must register for work and may be required to participate in a Food Stamp Employment and Training Program unless they meet specific exemptions.
Additional eligibility requirements may apply, so it is necessary to consult with the local County Public Assistance Office to determine eligibility for benefits.
An interview must be conducted to confirm eligibility and an application for benefits must also be completed.
