The Mississippi Human Services Department (MDHS) is responsible for administering the benefits of the Mississippi Food Stamp.

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program of Mississippi (SNAP) offers monthly incentives that help low-income households purchase the food they need for good health.

Federal laws and regulations regulating SNAP within the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) set eligibility requirements, income and resource limitations, and allocation maximums per household size.

A person who meets one of the following criteria may qualify for SNAP:

  • Work for low wages
  • Unemployed or work part-time
  • Receive Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Social Security’s Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or other assistance payments
  • Elderly or disabled and live on a small income

There are additional eligibility criteria. You will have to work with the Mississippi Department of Human Services, Office of Economic Assistance to determine if you are eligible for benefits.

To apply for benefits, you must submit an application to the Economic Assistance office of your local county department of Human Services.

Upon receiving an application, an eligibility worker will hold an interview with you, another household member, or an authorized representative of a household to gather information and explain SNAP.

Upon completion of all required verification, the household will be notified by mail whether or not they are eligible, and if so, their benefit amount, certification period and issuance procedure.

If you qualify for SNAP, SNAP will be given to the household no later than 30 days from the date the application is received by the office.

Households with very low income and resources may be eligible to receive benefits within seven calendar days for expedited services.

Mississippi EBT Payment Schedule

The Mississippi EBT Card holds the food assistance benefits assigned to you each month. Your benefits will be deposited onto your EBT card according to the schedule below:

Option 1 – Locate Your Last Purchase Receipt

One of the best ways to check the balance of your Mississippi EBT card is to find the most recent sales receipt or ATM receipt (only for TANF receivers).

You’ll find the current balance at the bottom of the receipt on your card. To check your balance using this form, be sure to save all of your recent Mississippi EBT Card receipts.

Option 2 – Check Your EBT Card Balance Via Phone

Another choice is to test your card balance by calling 1-866-512-5087 to the Mississippi EBT Card Customer Service Call number. Representatives are available 24 hours a day , 7 days a week, to help you get your Card balance back in.

Make sure your EBT Card code, 4-digit PIN, and Social Security Number (SSN) are ready before you dial.

Input your sixteen (16) digit EBT card number after you call and you will hear your current food assistance or cash account balance(s). To receive the details regarding your EBT card balance, you must include this information.
