The Indiana Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA), also called the Food Assistance Program, is responsible for implementing Indiana Food Stamp benefits.

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program ( SNAP) is a federally funded 100 percent program that is implemented by each state.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture, Food and Nutrition Programs create Federal legislation regulating the program’s implementation.

In Indiana, it is the responsibility of the Family and Social Services Administration to ensure the initial implementation and consistent application of the Federal regulations in each county.

What’s the Hoosier Works Card?

  • The Hoosier Works Card is Indiana’s EBT card.
  • EBT = electronic benefits transfer.
  • EBT card = a card that looks and works like a debit or credit card but is loaded with food stamps and/or cash benefits. You can use it at stores that accept EBT.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must satisfy both non-financial and financial requirements to qualify. Non-financial criteria include State residence, citizenship / alien status, job identification, and IMPACT Program cooperation.

Financial requirements include restrictions on income and properties. The asset/resource limit is $2.250 per household, except for households that have a disabled member or age 60 or older; the cap is $3.500 instead.

Assets include bank accounts, currency, land, personal property, vehicles, and so on. The home and accompanying a lot of the family, household goods and personal belongings, and life insurance plans are not counted as SNAP properties.

To order to qualify for welfare, all households (except those with elderly or disabled members) must pass a gross income check (130 percent of poverty).

Option 1 – Locate Your Last Purchase Receipt

One of the easiest ways to check the balance of your Indiana EBT card is to find the most recent purchase receipt or ATM receipt (only for TANF receivers).
