TANF is administered by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and rules on cash assistance may vary from State to State.

What is the Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT)?

Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) is an electronic system that allows a recipient to allow transfer their government benefits from a federal account to a retailer account to pay for products received.

EBT is used in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and Guam. SNAP EBT has been implemented in all states since June of 2004.

  • Put your card in the machine.
  • Enter your PIN.
  • Never let anyone see you enter your pin
  • Enter the dollar amount you want
  • Take your cash, card, and receipt so you will know how much you have left in your account
  • Check the receipt to make sure it is the same as the amount you just withdrew

NOTE:

  • You will have two (2) free ATM withdrawals each month at ATMs which do not
  • Each extra ATM withdrawal will cost you a 50¢ fee even at ATMs that do not
  • This fee will be automatically taken out of your cash benefit. You will not receive any other notification that this fee is being charged.

Transaction Fees

Each month you can make four (4) cash-only withdrawals from your EBT account without paying a transaction fee.

After four cash only withdrawals in one month, you will be charged an 80-cent transaction fee for each additional cash-only withdrawal you make with your EBT card from an ATM.
